The HIMEK is an effort to establish an alliance between the countries of the Himalayan region and the countries of the Mekong region for a regional cooperation framework for promoting climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts with special focus on emission reduction of black carbon (BC) particles and forest landscape restoration.
HIMEK Activities Plan
▪ Enhancing cooperation among the countries of Himalayas and the countries of the Mekong region on
emission reduction BC and promoting FLR
▪ Pilot project demonstration on BC reduction and FLR.
▪ Information sharing and capacity building.
▪ Organizing seminars, workshops, and policy dialogues on related matters.
The event was also aimed to introduce the HIMEK initiative to global policy makers. AIT and IUCN jointly establishing an alliance "the HIMEK" which will be a regional cooperation framework between the Himalayan countries and the countries of the Mekong Region to promote efforts on emission reduction of Black Carbon particles and forest landscape restoration.
An Inception meeting on the HIMEK was organized at IUCN ARO on 18 March 2018. The meeting was attended by the representatives from IUCN, RRC.AP, RECOFTC, FAO, and Environment and Health Foundation (India).
