The economic growth experienced in the Asian region over recent decades has led to increased emissions of air pollutants due to rapid industrialization, motorization, and urbanization, including constructions, open burning of waste and agricultural residues, land use changes, etc. Emission of air pollutants from these activities has resulted in an alarming deterioration of air quality across the region, putting human health at risk. Effective and efficient control measures from all stakeholders are necessary to curb the emissions of air pollutants, thereby preventing or reducing the adverse impacts of air pollution on human lives and the environment.
Air Pollution Cluster (APC) is committed to finding the best solutions to combat air pollution and related environmental problems for a clean and sustainable environment in the Asian region. We contribute to various initiatives aimed at improving air quality in the countries and the region. We work with the national governments, scientific community, and other stakeholders to facilitate regional cooperation, intergovernmental networking and initiatives, building capacities, promoting science policy gaps, information sharing, knowledge building, and supporting international cooperation on air pollution. We provide useful inputs for decision-making at local, national, and regional levels aimed at preventing or reducing the adverse effects of air pollution.
